On Friday, March 28, 2025, Attorneys Dwazendra Smith, Karnina Dargin Deane, and I (Corrie Gallien) had the honor of participating in a Wills Clinic hosted by the Lafayette Council on Aging, serving seniors in Broussard, Louisiana.
This event was made possible thanks to Ms. Minette LeBouef, who works at the Broussard location of the Lafayette Council on Aging. Ms. LeBouef reached out and invited us to provide this service for their seniors—and we are so grateful she did.

If you’re not familiar with the Lafayette Council on Aging and the vital work they do, I encourage you to learn more on their website: www.laf-coa.org. This nonprofit organization provides low- to no-cost meals and engaging activities for local seniors. Their mission is all about helping our senior community thrive, and we were proud to support that mission through this clinic.

The event kicked off with Attorney Deane of Your Legacy Building Advocate sharing valuable insight on estate planning and its importance. From there, we opened the floor for questions and had a thoughtful discussion with attendees about the differences between wills and trusts, among other key estate planning topics.

The seniors were engaged and eager to learn. We were happy to find that several attendees already had wills in place. For those who didn’t but expressed interest, we were able to begin drafting wills on-site. In total, we prepared wills for about five seniors.

While five may sound like a small number, for each of those individuals, having a valid will in place is truly life changing. We helped them take a meaningful step to “leave a legacy of love”—not one of confusion or chaos.
Attorney Deane often says that her firm’s mission is to help clients do just that: leave a legacy of love. It was a privilege to contribute to that mission through this clinic, and we are thankful to have partnered with her and Attorney Smith to serve our community.
The staff and seniors at the Lafayette Council on Aging were incredibly appreciative of our time and services. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to partnering with the Council again in the future to provide these important services.
